Day 8 of our epic adventure took us away from the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas strip and towards the breathtaking natural beauty of Red Rock Canyon. Our initial plan was to drive the scenic loop but we had forgotten to book advance tickets for this and they were sold out when we tried to book this a few days before. Despite this, we were determined to see the iconic red rocks so we headed out to the overlook.
Red Rock Canyon
The drive itself was a treat. Imagine vast desert landscapes, with rugged terrain and vibrant red rock formation, it was simply breathtaking. We pulled over at the Red Rock Canyon North marker for some quick photos, then continued about five miles where we came across the Red Rock Canyon overlook. On the way we passed a large stables where you can do Horse Riding through Red Rock Canyon, we also wish we'd have known about this before our trip as the boys would have loved it. You can find similar trips and excursions on Viator.
Red Rock Canyon is a National Conservation Area and a landscape of stunning red rock formations, dramatic cliffs, and sweeping desert vistas. There is a one way 13 mile scenic drive and many hiking trails. Timed Reservations are required for vehicle entry to the Scenic Loop between 8am-5pm from October 1 through May 31 and this costs $20 per car, you can book in advance here.
The overlook was a small parking area with an uninterrupted panoramic view of Red Rock Canyon that stretched as far as the eye could see and we had it all to ourselves. It felt like we were standing on the edge of a postcard. It's fully accessible, has picnic benches and toilet facilities available, making it a great stop for magnificent views. I had a little moment of panic or over-reaction, when i got out of the car to find Mark and Charlie stood on top of the wall that overlooks the canyon. A little slip from Charlie and my heart skipped a beat, i thought we were in for a hospital trip, as from a distance it appeared to be a significant drop but thankfully it was just an illusion and a very small drop to the other side. They all found this little prank hilarious.
After soaking in the incredible views, we headed back towards Summerlin. Mark and the boys were keen to experience some local parks and play areas, curious to see how they compared to those back home. We visited three different play areas in the residential neighbourhoods of Summerlin, and they had a fantastic time running around and enjoying the sunshine. It was a lovely change of pace, letting them safely run wild and burn off some energy.
The Bagel Nook
Midday we had arranged a delightful collaboration as we ventured to The Bagel Nook, a cafe nestled near the Summerlin shopping centre. We'd heard whispers of their legendary bagel creations, pancake stacks, and fantastic coffee, and we couldn't wait to experience it firsthand. We were welcomed in by the store manager and talked through what was on offer. We each chose something different from the menu and as the portions were huge so we decided to share and try a bit of everything. Wow, this place is a true gem with an incredible array of sweet and savoury options to choose from. I'm still missing the unique flavour combinations as we have nothing like it back home.
More Shopping
Next, it was time for some retail therapy! We explored the Summerlin shopping centre and made our first-ever trip to Macy's. It was fun to wander through the store, Mark picked up some new clothes and I treated myself to some new makeup.
A Medieval Feast
With a 6 pm dinner reservation, we headed back to the hotel to relax and get ready for an evening meal that we were really looking forward to. We had booked a table at Primal Steakhouse, the number one rated restaurant on TripAdvisor, and it definitely lived up to the hype!
Primal Steakhouse wasn't just a meal; it was an immersive experience. Stepping inside is like being transported to a medieval banquet hall, with a dramatic and a rustic ambiance that sets the stage for a truly unique dining adventure. From the moment you're greeted by the attentive staff, you know you're in for something special.
The focus is on high-quality, expertly cooked food, but the entire experience is elevated by the theatrical presentation, the thoughtfully crafted cocktails, and the overall commitment to creating a memorable evening. It's a departure from the typical Vegas steakhouse, offering a blend of fine dining and theatrical flair that makes it a must-visit for anybody visiting Las Vegas.
Day 8 started with natural beauty and incredible views and was filled with culinary delights and unforgettable flavours.
