How To Get The Best Deal When Booking A Holiday

Published on 11 September 2023 at 14:21

1. Time it right when booking: Booking last minute doesn’t guarantee a bargain. Research by Skyscanner found that you generally get the best prices around six months in advance. The day of the week that you book and fly matter too. Expedia claim that the cheapest day to book a holiday is a Sunday.  We did this year and our holiday increased by over £200 the following day

2. Use comparison sites to find cheap flights and hotels: With so many travel comparison websites, it’s hard to see which will find you a genuine deal.  We always check out Skyscanner, Trip Advisor and Trivago before booking and always find a deal that were happy with.

3. Book flights directly with the airline. Booking directly with the airline means that you can save money as the airline doesn't have to pay commission to third party booking sites.  We find that Ryanair always has some fantastic flight deals if your looking for a cheap getaway and you can save 10% when you sign up to their website.

4. Get a package deal: You can get some deep discounts by booking package holidays rather than purchasing flights and hotels individually.  Packages can also help to save time and stress by simplifying your overall travel plans.

5. Travel light: Some airlines charge extra for checked baggage so you will need to master the art of packing light if you don't want to pay the extra charge.

6.Let your weekly shop pay for your holiday: Our grocery shop is costing more than ever, but those extra pounds could convert to a UK hotel break, a Eurostar ticket or even a flight to the Caribbean.

7. Don't pay extra to sit together on the plane: If you’re traveling with family or friends and want to sit together on the plane, don’t pay extra for seat selection.  Instead check in as soon as possible and choose your seats for free,  This applies even when travelling with children as most airlines will not sit children away from their parents but check their policy first.

8. Bag more legroom in economy for free: If you’re tall or just want more legroom on your flight, try choosing an exit row seat when checking in online. These seats often have more legroom than other seats in economy class.

9. Look at booking excursions before you travel: Some travel operators like TUI offer discounts when booking excursions via their app.  You can also use great websites like Viator (a Trip advisor Company) that offer reviews & tickets that can be booked at over 345,000 places across the world.

I hope these tips help you save money on your next holiday!
