Week 3: The Gym & Me - A Busy Mum's Fitness Journey Continues!

Published on 31 May 2024 at 19:02

Hey, it's me again, back for week 3 of my gym chronicles. Three whole weeks! Can you believe it?  As a busy mum, carving out "me-time" can feel like finding a unicorn.  But we seem to have a rhythm going here and sticking to this gym routine is going well at the moment.

My Little Gym Buddy:

This week Charlie came along to the gym with me, for those of you who don't know, he's 13 and plays a lot of rugby.  Most weeks he trains and plays 3-5 times a week, so he is fit as a fiddle.  I wasn't going to let that stop me, if anything it actually made the competitive side of me come out a little.as i did not want to be beaten by my 13 year old!

As usual i started on the bikes whilst Charlie went on a strange looking treadmill to practice his sprinting. After 15 minutes pushing as hard as i could we moved onto the weight machines and swapped about on the ones i was familiar with, crunches, arm curl and chest press.

We then moved onto the leg machines, another of Charlie's strong suits but these machines were completlly new to me so i stood and watched Charlie first before trying out each one.  The leg press was my favourite and i manages to press up to 160kg durign this session.  However after being told by Charlie that Mark can max out the machine at 200kg i knew that this was my new goal,

My Wellness App

The gym that we attend (Livewire) has an app called MyWellness that links to all of the machines, with some of them you can log in on the screen and track your progress as you go, with others like the weight machines you scan the barcode and then log your weight and reps completed. Its a great way to track your workouts and monitor your progress.

This Weeks Results

My main goal for joining the gym is to get fitter so that i can have the energy to keep up with our boys and their very active lifestyles.  I told myself that i wasn't going to watch the scales too much because although it would be great to lose this extra weight, i believe that with doing weights i may not see the results id like however after 3 weeks i decided to see how far i;d come and to my surprise i'm 7lb down.  It;s safe to say i'm over the moon and motivated to continue,
