Morning Prep: Walmart Run for Essentials

Our first full day in Las Vegas kicked off with a classic family trip to Walmart!  We stocked up on breakfast bits, snacks, and all the essentials to keep the little ones (and ourselves!) happy and fuelled for the day.  It’s always fun to see the differences in supermarkets when traveling, and Walmart definitely delivered on the "everything you could possibly need" front.

Stepping into a Sci-Fi Wonderland: Inside Area 15

Prior to our trip we had arranged a collaboration with Area 15 for a fun packed day out with the kids.  We were incredibly excited to explore so we made our way there for midday.  Little did we know, it would be an absolute whirlwind of family fun and immersive experiences.

We met with Alexander in the vibrant Art Island outside, a surreal landscape of interactive installations.  The kids were immediately captivated by the larger-than-life sculptures and colorful murals.  Alexander gave us our media passes and we had already been sent our Level 2 access passes via email, which allowed us to unlock access to a treasure trove of 18 different rides and attractions during our visit.  These are usually priced at $79 each which is an absolute steal!  We'll share more about all that Area 15 has to offer and the different passes available in our Area 15 blog.

Stepping inside Area 15 was like entering a futuristic bunker, a mesmerizing blend of art, technology, and pure imagination. The ambient lighting and unique installations created an immersive atmosphere that had us instantly hooked.

Our Level 2 passes allowed us to select two of the larger attractions.  After some deliberation, we settled on Illuminarium and Five Iron Golf, booking our time slots for later in the day.

We headed to the first floor where we found The Lab, this area has around 6 different rides and attractions inside,

  • Birdly - A VR flight simulator that made us feel like we were soaring through the skies.
  • Bot Breach - A thrilling VR adventure where we battled to save the day.
  • Particle quest - a VR scavenger hunt
  • Lazer maze - A challenging and fun laser obstacle course.
  • AR Dodgeball - A high-energy augmented reality game that turned dodgeball into a futuristic battle.

The Lazer Maze and AR Dodgeball were huge hits with everyone, especially the kids! We had a blast dodging lasers and battling it out in the AR arena.

Illuminarium: A Journey Through Space

Illuminarium was an hour-long immersive experience that took us on a journey through space.  We began in a small briefing room, where the concept was explained, the visuals and sound effects made us feel like we were truly blasting off.  We then entered a larger room with projected visuals on the wall and an interactive floor where we explored the moon, witnessed rocket launches, and navigated through asteroid fields. The interactive floors were a huge hit with the kids, especially the moon boot footprints and breaking space rocks.

Five Iron Golf: Swing into Fun

Next up was Five Iron Golf, where we got to test our golfing skills (or lack thereof) on interactive simulators.  We opted for the children's games, which were so much fun!  We hit golf balls into an interactive screen, and the game tracked our shots and smashed the corresponding cars. Mark, the only one thats played golf among us, so naturally he won, but we all had a fantastic time. The comfortable seating and the option to order food and drinks made it a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Arcade Fun and Sky-High Views: Asylum Arcade and Lift Off

Next, we ventured into the Asylum Arcade, where our passes granted us 20 tokens each.  We enjoyed a variety of classic arcade games, including some unique finds not commonly seen in the UK, like table ice hockey.

As the sun began to set, we headed outside for the Lift Off ride.  It's a table and chairs that rise into the sky, offering stunning views of the Strip. Mark and Charlie ordered drinks and went up, while Louie and I watched from below.  They loved the picturesque sunset views and the overall experience.

We had such a fun time at Area 15, trying out as many of the activities that we could fit in, even if we didn't manage them all.  We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Las Vegas!  It's a great was to spend the day and fantastic value for money.

Evening Indulgence: Galpao Gaucho A Brazilian Steakhouse Feast

After a quick freshen up at the hotel, we headed to Galpao Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse, located on the Las Vegas Strip at the Fashion Show Mall. This rodizio-style restaurant offered 17 different cuts of meat, and we were ready to indulge.

We were warmly welcomed and seated at a large round table that was tucked away in a cosy nook.   Our server took our drinks order and explained how everything worked.  First there's a buffet-style selection of sides where you'll find a selection of meats, olives,, cheeses, breads, pastas and potatoes and much more.  And then the main event – the endless parade of meat. We were given cards to signal, green when we were ready and red when we wanted a break   We turned our cards to green and the feat began.

Servers circulated with skewers of perfectly cooked meats, carving slices onto our plates.  We indulged in a variety of delicious offerings from sirloin steak and chicken wrapped in bacon to salmon with an incredible passion fruit sauce and halloumi with honey.  The star of the show was undoubtedly the 24-carat gold-wrapped steak, a culinary masterpiece that was carved and cooked to perfection at our table, it melted in your mouth just like butter.  Louie wasn't convinced as he was convinced that it had "tin foil" on it which made us all laugh.

The quality of the food and the attentive service were exceptional.  We were in a blissful meat coma, and after a short break, we shared a signature dessert that was equally impressive and the perfect ending to an incredible meal.  Galpão Gaucho is a must-visit for any food lover in Las Vegas.

With full bellies and happy hearts, we took an Uber back to the hotel,  ready for a good night’s sleep.  Day 5 was a resounding success!  Area 15 provided a day of unforgettable family fun, and Galpao Gaucho offered a culinary experience we won’t forget any time soon.
