The countdown is now on until Louie kicks off his football journey and our little whirlwind of energy is so ready to hit the pitch.
From the moment that Louie could move, he was inseparable from a football (or rugby ball), it's not surprising as we have enough around the house and garden to open up a small sports shop. But, it was surprising when he uttered his first word. As we looked out of the living room window one frosty morning, he shouted "Ball" and pointed towards the goal posts at the end of the front garden. "Ball" was Louie's first word, i was in shock, where was "Mamma" or "Dadda".
From the second he could walk, Louie's had a ball at his feet, in fact his first steps were to his Dad because he had a rugby ball in his hand. His little legs would pump furiously as he chased the ball, his determination to score as fierce as any seasoned pro.
He's now 4 and a half and there isn't a day gone by that he isn't playing football whether it's in the living room or out in the garden. Every day after nursery the first words out of his mouth are "Play football with me?" Of course i'm always the goalie whilst he fires ridiculously powerful shots at me so i recently bought some targets for his football net to save my face from being smashed with the ball. He loves nothing more than to score top bins and run around the garden celebrating whilst shouting "get in".
Since Louie started Rugby League training when he turned 4, he has been asking when he can go to football training and now that he's due to start school in September, he can finally join the local football team and can't wait!
I'm excited to see how his football journey unfolds. Will he become the next Steven Gerard? Or maybe just a happy, healthy kid who loves the game? Either way, I’m thrilled to be on this adventure with him and we'll be cheering him on from the sidelines.
