A Magical Night at the Panto: Our Review of Cinderella at the Parr Hall in Warrington

Published on 4 January 2025 at 21:07

This January, the Parr Hall in Warrington hosts a dazzling production of Cinderella.  This evening was the the press event so me and Louie went along to see his first pantomime along with my friend and god-daughters.  It was a truly enchanting experience for all ages, from the glittering costumes to the hilarious antics of the Ugly Sisters, this pantomime has all the ingredients for a perfect fun family evening.

The classic story of Cinderella was brought to life with vibrant energy and a modern twist.  The script was witty and engaging, packed with local references that had the Warrington audience roaring with laughter and mischievous jokes that will make some blush.  The pantomime was energetic and packed with singing, dancing and lots of comedy, there was a mix of classic songs and contemporary hits and the choreography was lively and well-rehearsed, adding another layer of entertainment to the performance.

The cast was superb. Cinderella was played with warmth and grace by Charlotte Buxton and captured the audience's hearts with her gentle spirit and beautiful singing.  The Fairy Godmother was played by Anne Hegerty from ITV's The Chase along with Christopher Pym as Prince Charming, Daniel Dean as Buttons, Katie Buttner as Dandini and Nick Fawcett as Baron Hardup.  However, it was the Ugly Sisters, played by Phillip Meeks and Matt McInnes, who truly stole the show with their outrageous costumes, over-the-top personalities, and their hilarious interactions with the audience (if you're sitting in the front rows you may need some waterproofs).  Louie also found it hilarious that one of them was called Rebecca like me.

Louie's favourite character was Buttons and his favourite scene was during one of the musical numbers where Cinderella and Prince Charming are sat upon a wall, Buttons playfully pushes Prince Charming off the wall and proceeds to take his place next to Cinderella, until Prince Charming gets his own back.  It was hilarious and the kids were laughing out loud.  Buttons also has his own magic act during the show, the audience loved the tricks especially the fire eating.

My God-daughter one of three lucky children to receive a golden ticket and be invited onto the stage towards the end of the show.  A member of staff came to collect us and she was invited along with two other children onto the stage by Buttons, where they were asked to repeat tongue twisters.  All of the children did very well, received a huge applause from the audience and a gift from Buttons.

Overall, the Cinderella pantomime at the Parr Hall was a resounding success. It was a fun-filled, family-friendly show that delivered on all fronts.  With its witty script, talented cast, stunning visuals, and catchy musical numbers, it provided a perfect escape into the world of fairytale magic.  Whether you're a seasoned panto-goer or a first-timer like us , this production is definitely worth seeing.  It’s a fantastic way to kick off the new year with laughter, joy, and a touch of magic.
